WOW…dinesh ji..

Thanks for sharing this…

So here u see…

To confirm B. lacera u have to see achenes

And to confirm B. oxyodentata u have to see leaves arrangement at the base…

Besides u need to see heads in whole plant.

Dear friends,

Blumea keys and descriptions of B. lacera and B. oxyodonta (referred from T.
Cooke's, The Flora of the Presidency of Bombay ... Vol I, Part I) attached.
Intended for reference ... the ID may or may not resolve to Blumea.

Regards.

Dinesh I don’t have any flora for me to see keys at the moment..

But what I know is most the floras have Blumea ID on 1. Wooly texture 2.
Florets 3. Margins 4. Leaves position and arrangement …(in order of priority).

The florets I think would be much more exploited in detail for correct ID.

The first character that should segregate Blumea lacera is Wooly texture. I
think B. oxyodonta doesn’t have such rich texture.

I could confirm if I can get some more picture of this specimen…

But for now I feel (just feel) that this may be Blumea lacera.

It would be very wrong to say anything (literally anything) just based on this
photograph.

I may be wrong.

Well said, dear Hemanth ... agreeing to your points.

While you think the plant could possibly be B. lacera ... please let know what
characteristic(s) of this plant make(s) you think the plant may not be B.
oxyodonta

Dear all,

Its very difficult to confirm the identity on such photographs.

To confirm ID of this plant,

Anyone would need,

1. Good close up of inflorescence head

2. Good close up of florets (if possible)

3. A close up of leaves upper and underside

4. A picture of habit i.e. longshot of plant

5. And several other pictures from different sides of the head

Only then we can arrive to some idea .

To get a accurate id we need to see many other characters

To my personal eye it looks more like Blumea lacera.

I would fear even to call this specimen Blumea. There would be lot of genera
closer to this.

I request expert opinion.

Regards,

Dinesh ji I also agree with you except for the spines which is found on leaves
on B.oxyodonta other charatetrs match with B.lacera.

Hemanth, the leaf margin has spines ... most of other characteristics similar
to B. lacera.
Please let know if identification is ambiguous based on this characteristic.
