The plant that has been introduced from China to the Kathmandu region is
best called P. forbesii. It seems likely (but not proven) that P.
malacoides represents 'improved' cultivated versions (or 'good' selected
forms) of the wild P. forbesii which is very similar but less robust and
showy.
