I planted  Oplismenus  sps. (.Oplismenus burmannii ??)  under the trees  
when I was taking care of the huge garden  in Chennai .  This grass was 
very  tolerant of shade  and required  no water / less water.   It grew 
profusesly under the shade of  the trees.
