night blooming cereus
each bud opens only once, for a few hours, during the nite,

i used to have one on my dining table, warmest spot

it opened started opening suddenly twisted around the stem as it opened
filled the room with scent
and me with wonder
it was about midnite
and then by the morning was closed
and next day wilted totally

that was in 1998

not knowing its habit, i thought i had done something wrong
that i had somehow not taken good care of it etc etc ....

but now i know better.
that is its life story...so to say.

NY TIMES did a nice small story last year:

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/15/science/night-blooming-cereus.html

enjoy

may your plant live and flourish
