This plant had been very tricky since I saw it first.
It has confused many.
Seidenfaden treated Coelogyne flavida separately, but then it was merged
with C. prolifera. Then few images of C. flavida of his were not flavida =
prolifera but C. schultesii and even some of his images of prolifera were
schultesii.
Schultesii and longipes both were published in Journal of Indian Academy of
Sciences, Bombay B. I could never get this journal for 1978. So I cant
confirm.
Now, if i follow the key in monograph of Coelogyne by Clayton,
Schultesii and prolifera has ovoid or ellipsoid pseudobulbs; schultesii has
2 keels near base of the lip, elevated and prominent on the mid-lobe;
flowers white to brown, side-lobes of lip with brown; lip midlobe orbicular
or subquadrate. Prolifera has 2 keels terminating two thirds onto the
mid-lobe; flowers yellow to yellowish-green; lip midlobe orbicular or
subquadrate. Longipes has cylindric or narrowly ovoid pseudobulbs; 2 keels
terminating at the mid-lobe, prominent on mid-lobe only; flower yellow; lip
mid-lobe cordate, distinctly bi-lobed and mucronate tip.
I will need a proper spreadup of labellum to confirm if possible.
In my opinion, to solve this issue taxonomically, schultesii and prolifera
should be merged. They are highly variable and all variations fit well
under each other. I agree that longipes should stay the way it is.
Thanks and regards
Pankaj
