Smilax perfoliata Loureiro, Fl. Cochinch. 622 (1790) - T. Koyama in Fl. E.
Himal. 417 (1966) - Bull. Dept. Med. Pl. Nep. 2:126 (1969).

S. prolifera Wall. ex Roxb., Fl. Brit. Ind. 6:312 (1892).

Dense shrubby climber. Branches stout, prickly. Leaves 13-23 cm long and
6.5-14 cmbroad, ovate, acuminate to orbicular-ovate, 3-7-costate, base
subcordate or rounded; petiole2-3.5 cm long, stout, sheathing portion
forming two large basal amplexicaul erect or reflexedauricles. Umbels
3-nate or whorled, many-flowered. Peduncle 1.5-2 cm long; pedicels 0.6 cm
long; bracteoles minute. Flowers small, sepals oblong-lanceolate. Filaments
slender. Ovary oblong.

Distribution : Northern India, N. Burma, northern Indo-China and S. China;
in Nepal - east and central.

Ecology: Occurs in temperate forest.Uses :
