*I*n all probabilities it is *Prosopis cineraria**.  *Common name: Khejri 
Tree • Gujarati: Semi • Hindi: Jand जंड, Khejri खेजड़ी Khejri • Kannada: 
Perumbai .  *  It is  the state tree of Rajasthan .*   This is called  '*vanni 
maram'* in Tamil Nadu. It is a sacred tree for them.    Many people 
mistakenly say banni in other regions..  The correct  *Banni mara* for 
Karnataka people is Acacia ferruginea (the shami vriksha) a branch of which 
used to be cut  by the erstwhile Mysore  after Dasara procession on  Vjaya 
Dasami day , as  a sign of victory.
