Terminalia chebula. Chebulic myrobalan :  The fruits used  for tanning . 
Salem variety is the best . Also used in many ayurvedic preparations 
especially Triphala , a combination of 3 fruits (chebulic + Belleric 
myrobalan + Amla) .
