Looking at various images at GBIF, what I gather is that the specimens of
*Desmodium* *laxiflorum *from Africa and Western Ghats seem to have larger
leaves (compared with the inflorescence). Specimens from SE Asia do have
smaller leaves. They agree more with my plant. Two examples, one from
Africa, one from Malaysia, are here:
  https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/1288064297
  https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/2290749603
Also specimens from Africa do have leaves with larger number of nerves than
what Flora of China mentions. All this is consistent with the fact that one
synonym is *Desmodium macrophyllum *(meaning large leaves).
So, my conclusion is that my plant is *Desmodium* *laxiflorum *and there
is variation between plants found in Western Ghats and NE India.
  Best wishes
