Hi All:

I'm a kindergarten student of botany...

Having grown up in the Dadar Parsi Colony and 5 gardens area in Mumbai, I
have had daily access to a veritable collection of trees- Kigelia Pinnata,
Barringtonia acutangula, Swietenia Macrophylla and Mahogani, Tabebuia
Megapotamica, Canon ball tree, Kleinhovia Hospita, Diospyros Peregrina,
Berrya Cordifolia, to name a few....

A few years ago a Parsi gentleman made a little field booklet which took you
along the avenues of that area and identified the trees as you walked along
the specified route. Some trees have
alas been lost since but many are still around. What a great gift to the
area!

It would be great if every neighbourhood would mark their green territory
and record its botanical history for posterity.

The purists may frown at the large number of exotic trees in our area but it
is indeed the green heritage of the area just as colonial architecture is
Mumbai's heritage....

Cheers,
Alpa
