As per Flora of Bhutan: subsp. *anthopogon*; *R. haemonium *Balfour f. & Cooper, *R. anthopogon *D. Don var. *haemonium* (Balfour f. & Cooper) Cowan & Davidian. Branches without persistent leaf bud scales; corolla (in Bhutan) usually pink or pinkish white sometimes (in Darjeeling and Sikkim) lemon-yellow.
subsp. *hypenanthum* (Balfour f.) Cullen; *R. hypenanthum *Balfour f. Differs from subsp. *anrhopogon* in its branchlets which bear persistent lanceolate leaf bud scales at nodes; corolla creamy-white or yellow, sometimes (only in Bhutan) pink. As the difference are difficult to judge from these images and Flora of Pakistan gives *Rhododendron* *anthopogon* D. Don <http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=5&taxon_id=200016332> as syn. of *Rhododendron hypenanthum* Balf. f., I am keeping it under *Rhododendron anthopogon *only for the time being.
