Dear friends,

I thought it would be interesting to know names of some roads/areas in
Mumbai (Bombay) named after trees.

1. Laburnum Road - Here lots of Laburnum trees (cassia fistula)were growing
once, but alas, now there is not a single Laburnum tree found on this road.

2. Phanaswadi - Kalbadevi - Not a single jack fruit tree in that area now.

2a. Ambewadi

3. Bhendi Bazar - Bhendi (Thespesia) or Umberella trees used to grow in the
areas now congested with markets.

4. Anjir wadi - near Mazgaon- Fig trees used to grow in that area.

5. Tamarind Lane in Fort - Now there is not a single Tamarind tree there.

6. Wadala - named after the Banyan trees (Wad in Marathi) that used to grow
in that area.

Regards,

Mani.
