Dear Tapasda
somehow a few weeks ago i had seen your msg in another thread but was not in a position to respond in Kolkata there are too many people suffering from Covid19 and are in hospital. i am not in any direct contact with anybody, yet it has been very depressing, hectic and busy without business time Doctors and hospitals are encouraging relatives and friends to just stay home. so keeping my distance but telephones to their doctors, relatives, funeral arrangements and then Prathana sabha took /takes a lot of time, all by telephone !!! its frustrating when i cant go and give solace directly, nor give the bereaved widow a hug. plus calling all their relatives, many esp the NRIs get indignant and want to know about the treatment given or not given. But i have no answers, nobody does, the doctors are not telling us, not even the husband or the wife of the deceased. Depressing state of affairs. PLUS I AM taking care of by TELEPHONE, the uplifting of sagging psyche of a large numbers of old people living alone or without any younger generation near by. and on telephone, preventing some older ladies living alone from falling prey to people who come to the door saying they were there to help clean the house!!! clean the house? indeed! more like clean out the house and may be murder the hapless woman. happens a lot here. in one case, i asked the auntyji a lot of questions and discovered that the man who had come to the door, had been looking at her balcony for the last several days and i guess that was recce surveillance to make sure she was living alone. Fortunately she has two doors, only one opens, the other needs a key, so not easily opened. That saved her from the guy inviting himself in, by force or else. such are the perils for old people nowadays. PLUS doing all my own housework, no helpers, no maids. And even minor repairs, my building has decided not to let mistries in. Plus this pandemic has increased my workload, every time groceries come in , to disinfect and wash etc takes more than 18 hours instead of usual half to one hour. Doing all this I myself am falling prey to some depression and dejection but calls from my siblings and nieces and nephews and some friends save the day. of course intermittent fasting, meditation and reiki, vitamins D, A, E and C, and zinc , magnesium , potassium and the ayush promoted Kaddha( i do it only occasionally) and gujarati garam masala cha or coffee once in a while is helping. and I read a lot. Since end of March when the lockdown started, I have read about 25 books anew and re-read about 10 or 12 books from my library and Cancer therapy books .... today I lost a cousin to cancer, in usa. so thats my excuse for not looking at the micromini mailbox since lock down started!!! but last couple of days i have really cleaned out the mailbox, down to 4 gb used. Thanks for your prompt I hope you and your family are keeping hale and hearty and safe. I also hope all of our members are safe and keeping to the rules of a pandemic and not succumbing to the lure of puja pandal hopping and now Diwali shopping. if we are alive, we can do shopping later to our heart's content.
