Dear frnds,
In Ayurveda Blood letting or Raktamokshana is one of the important Panchakarma
process which is carried out by Leeches, used in many  We are using leeches in
our daily practice. Some peoples from Satara, Amboli are providing leeches in
pune for sale.We get it from the distributers. This Blood letting process in
not harmful and we didn't have seen any patient of allergy by the leeches.
After sufficient sucking of blood leech became drousy and it automatically
releases the body. Bleeding continues till the Hirudin ( One of the
anticoagulant that leech have) is there. After that we put Termeric Powder over
the wound , then bleeding stops. Some times when we have to remove leeches
prior to time we always put Termeric powder over the mouth of leech. After the
completion of the process we have to squeez the leeches to omitte the blood
out. With the help of Termeric powder and our hands we complete this procesure.
We can use these used leeches again. These all
the processes are mentioned in Ayurvedic Basic Texts as the Raktamokshana. We
the Ayurvedic practitioner are familier with these processes. One more
information that God Of Medical Science i.e. 'Lord Dhanwantari' is holding this
important instrument of Panchakarma ' Leech ", in his hand.
While in forest to protect from the leeches or to remove the leeches we can use
1. Tobacco ( Mostly available), 2. Termeric powder, 3. perfumes or strong
essences.

 Regards, Dr. Kadus Arvind ,Pune.
