Yes, fruits look different. I checked all the species listed in Flora of Peninsular India. This appears close to *Mallotus atrovirens* as per GBIF <https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/gallery?taxon_key=5378548> specimens- one <https://www.gbif.org/tools/zoom/simple.html?src=//api.gbif.org/v1/image/unsafe/http%3A%2F%2Fsweetgum.nybg.org%2Fimages3%2F3797%2F660%2F04080095.jpg> and two <https://www.gbif.org/tools/zoom/simple.html?src=//api.gbif.org/v1/image/unsafe/http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kew.org%2Fherbcatimg%2F53573.jpg> .
