Another closer species seems to be Diospyros cordifolia (but this tree is armed as per keys in FoPI <http://flora-peninsula-indica.ces.iisc.ac.in/herbsheet.php?id=3507&cat=7>) as per Flora of Peninsular India <http://flora-peninsula-indica.ces.iisc.ac.in/herbsheet.php?id=3507&cat=7> I will have to recheck other observations at https://efloraofindia.com/2011/02/26/diospyros-montana/
