I too think that it is not a mushroom but a bulge and drops of harz comin out.

  Any idea if it was soft or rigid? The spots on it makes me wonder if it is 
some hardened resin on which small particles have got embedded before hardened.

          I found the attached fungus in Nov. in Chennai. I assume it is fungus 
and not resin. It was on dead wood and the clear drops looked like some 
exudation. There was no rain. Can anyone please id it? There were many such 
formations varying from  5 cm length to 10cm. thanks very much.
