Thank you very very much, Vijayasankar ji, for the clarification and help
with coining an appropriate name for this plant.
I like the latter option of *மலை நாவல் malai naaval* = hill jamun; it is a
very nice name.

Regards.
Dinesh

Dear Dinesh ji,

The name 'kollinjaval' is recognized as a Malayalam name in several
references (e.g., IISc-IndiaFlora
<https://indiaflora-ces.iisc.ac.in/herbsheet.php?id=11660&cat=13>,
wisdomlib.org <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/kollinjaval>, Navendu's
book on Endemic Woody Plants
<https://ruffordorg.s3.amazonaws.com/media/project_reports/Endemic%20Woody%20Plants.pdf>).
It may have been mistakenly listed as a Tamil name on some websites.

For *Syzygium laetum*, I think the Tamil name *காட்டு நாவல்* 'kaattu
naaval' meaning *forest/wild jamun*, or *மலை நாவல்* 'malai naaval' which
translates to *hill jamun* may be appropriate.

Best regards,

Vijayasankar
