I think you mean to say that it is better to explicitly write as  *കാട്ടുമാങ്ങ
kaattumaanga* rather than  *കാട്ടുമാ kaattumaa*.

Simply and only  *മാ maa* also means mango - as listed in Hermann Gundert's
A Malayalam and English dictionary.
