Naming a cultivated taxon is very difficult unless we get full details about the flowers and fruits. Based on the available literature regarding the nomenclatural history and naming of banana (*Musa *cultivars) it is concluded that, all cultivars derived from the pure *M. acuminata *(AA, AAA, etc) and *M. balbisiana *(BB, BBB, etc) lines can be treated under their respective parents and all others (hybrids of *M. acuminata *and *M. balbisiana*) can be denoted as *Musa *× *paradisiaca *L.
