Hello, I would like to bring to light a factor which I perceive to be relevant and that is the historical confusion between Ipomoea digitata and Ipomoea mauritiana. Ipomoea digitata and Ipomoea mauritiana are both legitimate species but descriptions of the 2 contain sufficient over-lapping features to instill confusion. So far , I have been unable to (with any certainty) distinguish between Ipomoea digitata and Ipomoea mauritiana and photos on the web using both epithets appear to be the same plant. I have seen Ipomoea digitata listed as a synonym of Ipomoea mauritana and Ipomoea mauritiana listed as a synonym of Ipomoea digitata. Here is a synonym I have for Ipomoea digitata : Ipomoea rubrocincta Ipomoea paniculata var. digitata Here is the list of synonyms I have for Ipomoea mauritiana : Synonym:Ipomoea ennealoba Synonym:Ipomoea eriosperma Synonym:Ipomoea insignis Synonym:Ipomoea eriosperma Synonym:Ipomoea paniculata A check for both names in http://ipni.org/ipni/plantnamesearchpage.do may prove useful There are various subtypes listed for Ipomoea digitata I perceive that Ipomoea mauritiana must be clearly distinguished from Ipomoea digiitata before any definitive ID's can be arrived at for these 2 similarly featured species. I hope my thoughts on the matter may be of some value... regards, Ron
