Thats right. Allium ascalonicum L., Fl. Palaest.: 117 (1756) is the accepted name.
But, if Allium cepa var. aggregatum G.Don, Mem. Wern. Nat. Hist. Soc. 6: 27 (1827) is a synonym of Allium cepa L., Sp. Pl.: 300 (1753) and Allium ascalonicum L., Fl. Palaest.: 117 (1756) is a synonym of Allium cepa var. aggregatum G.Don, Mem. Wern. Nat. Hist. Soc. 6: 27 (1827) then I assume the accepted name for the plant should have been Allium cepa L., Sp. Pl.: 300 (1753)!!! How come both is accepted name? :( Pankaj On Wed, Jan 5, 2011 at 3:50 AM, Gurcharan Singh <[email protected]> wrote: > Thanks Pankaj ji > That means Shallot is back as Al. ascalonicum L., a recognised name. > > > > -- > Dr. Gurcharan Singh > Retired Associate Professor > SGTB Khalsa College, University of Delhi, Delhi-110007 > Res: 932 Anand Kunj, Vikas Puri, New Delhi-110018. > Phone: 011-25518297 Mob: 9810359089 > http://people.du.ac.in/~singhg45/ > > > > On Tue, Jan 4, 2011 at 1:30 PM, Pankaj Kumar <[email protected]> wrote: >> >> Just to bring to your notice that all varieties except two of Allium >> cepa has been merged with the former [Goaverts et al. 2011 (Kew >> Checklist)] >> >> Allium cepa L., Sp.
