  Subject: [efloraofindia:59885] Tree Carnival 2011

Tree lovers of Pune greeted the new year by celebrating 'Tree Carnival 2011'
on the first 3 days of January 2011. The event included 'Poet-tree', an
audio-visual recital of famous poems on trees, 'Artist-tree' an exhibition of
paintings and crafts on trees and an unique competition 'Tree-sure Hunt' of
locating and identifying 100 rare roadside trees of Pune.

In the Tree-sure Hunt competition the participants were given a list of 100
rare trees of Pune with a clue on their location .A trail through the city was
designed to cover all the 100 trees from 9 am to 6 pm on a single day (2 nd Jan
2011). These trees had to be located, identified and photographed for proof of
visit. A team of 2 was allowed to use vehicle, books and on-line help for ID.
The competitors included 52 amateur tree lovers, 16 garden supervisors of Pune
Municipal Corporation and 2 Forest officers.

The team that secured the first prize of Rs. 10,000 scored 76 points (
correctly identified and photographed trees) out of 100.
The second position went to the team that included ITP member Mr. Ajinkya
Gadve with just 1 point short of 1 st place. The event was greatly enjoyed by
participants and judges equally.
