For many years even I use to wonder how roots bear the pods. Then in college heard about Hypogea. But again it was not known that hypogea was produced from fertilized flower. But instead was thought that it is a stem outshoot. Then use to wonder how seeds come in it? Then once I had also thought of underground flowers. Gone are those days when we could not get the knowledge with a click on th emouse. Thanks for sharing. In case some member is unaware of how the legumes grow under ground when the flowers are above ground, I am attaching a picture showing the part of branch that grows prostrate. The axillary flowers after maturity send fruiting peduncles with a pointed tip into the ground. The legumes grow under ground (hypo-gea). Hence the plants are prevented from being erect, they are usually rolled over using an empty barrel so that peduncles reach ground easily. Regards, .
