"Dear Dr. Vijaydas,
Yes, in differing genera there are some different expressions of
hybridity. However this type of simple genetic abnormality does not
indicate a hybrid, and though some hybrids may have some morphological
abnormalities, these cultivars are not the result of hybridity, Nor does
the absence of sori indicate a hybrid.
It is the spores, not sporangia, that are important - sporangia may
fail to develop for environmental reasons or various other causes, including
in some hybrids. But one cannot deduce hybridity from the sporangia alone.
In these higher genera of ferns, hybrids between species have recognisable
abortive spores.
       Best wishes,
             Chris F.-J."
