Tropical American species, this is very commonly escaped in Central Florida, esp. common near Orlando's Disney World. It is a "big bang" bloomer that comes into bloom for a few weeks in spring/early summer in Florida, a couple of months before P. pterocarpum. It takes considerably more cold than P. pterocarpum, and can be distinguished easily by its thinner-textured pods.
