Ushadi
There are good number of species of Salix in Kashmir (though not S.
tetrasperma). This year I am visiting Kashmir in April mainly to capture
these in flower. I don't know whether I would be able to catch the most
spectacular of all the Salix caprea, the first species to flower in Kashmir
as early as late February, producing most fragrant flowers, whose fragrance
like Magnolia grandiflora can be felt from several metres. We used to keep
twigs of this in flower in flower pots to give fragrance in the room for
several days.
