Dear All,

38 healthy trees are facing the BMC axe in already tree deficient Mumbai.
The BMC wants to widen a nallah at Vikhroli as they want to avert flooding
in the area during monsoon. As per the information gathered from the
inhabitants of the area, the water level in the nallah remains atleast two
feet below the bank even on the day of highest rainfall last year.

Some of these trees are more than 50 yrs old and is a roost for a large
number of birds. There is a neglected open ground on the other bank and the
nallah can be widened on that bank however the BMC is adamant on chopping
down these trees.

I have written to the BMC Commissioner pointing out the issue and attached
the letter along with my post.

It will be very helpful if you all sent similar letter to the MCGM
Commissioner in order to save these trees from being axed.

I am sorry if i have violated the guidelines of this group.
