Yes, it matches very well with descriptions avlbl online,( efloras, org) except i did not observe the 8-10 stamens. thanks Vijay-ji and Balkar-ji. for the id. I am wondering if this is a commonly occuring plant, as elsewhere the oleraceae species is much more frequently visible?
It would be interesting to have some information on how common or not a species is; perhaps the frequency of plants found on the specific observation/location as posted. by members. Gurcharan-ji and Garg-ji may please consider this suggestion. regards A.Sinha On Tuesday, February 28, 2012 8:45:04 PM UTC+5:30, Vijayasankar wrote: > > Portulaca quadrifida. > http://www.flowersofindia.in/catalog/slides/Chicken%20Weed.html > > Regards > > Vijayasankar Raman > National Center for Natural Products Research > University of Mississippi > > > On Tue, Feb 28, 2012 at 9:09 AM, greenearth <sinha.i...@gmail.com> wrote: > >> A pretty spreading plant with tiny yellow flowers, please help id: >> >> Common plant seen in wase land outskirts of Chennai, in moist >> semi-shady places >> Low spreading stems seen growing to 5 inches long >> Stems are string-like with hairy appendages at nodes >> tiny yellow 4-petalled flowers, about 2mm x 1mm long >> Seems to flower all through the year, >> >> Thanks >> A.Sinha >> > >
