*Rubus niveus* Thunb.,  Rubo 9, f. 3 9, 1813
syn: *Rubus lasiocarpus* Smith; *R. foliosus* D. Don

A large spreading shrub distinguished from other species of Rubus by its 
pinnate compound leaves with usually 5-11 leaflets and pink flowers; stem 
and branches sometimes turning purplish, slightly hairy; leaflets elliptic, 
ovate to ovate-lanceolate, toothed, terminal often larger and lobed, upper 
surface green, lower white hairy; flowers 9-12 mm across in panicles; calyx 
hairy, petals pink slightly shorter to almost as long as calyx lobes; fruit 
initially pink finally maturing to black and glaucous.
