Yes the weeds are named after the party name as 'Communist' or 'Congress plant' in areas of Karnataka and also Kerala.
Weeds and exotics are called by the names of opposition-party to mark the behaviour of invasiveness. For example, I heard that *Wedelia* sp. (Asteraceae) is called as 'Congress plant' in Kerala; whilst the communist in power.
