Many thanks for validating the Bengali name - son champa. Found this name listed by BSI - ENVIS at http://www.bsienvis.nic.in/mangroves/disp_records.asp?itemno=42, and there are one OR few more links giving this name. It could be the like-fragrance, not sure.
Here, the flowering stage is past - the stage is of propagules' growth. Perhaps it is the cylindrical shape of propagule that the epithet refers. Those familiar with mangroves may please help clarify. Regards.
