I would like to share my personal feelings on this. Nest depends on the type of bird in question as Dr. Saurab said. A dare devil bird will make nest on the top of a tree, to keep it out of reach of common predator and also to keep a vigil on the surrounding. A shy bird will tend to hide its nest just because it knows it is vulnerable. A bird which is nocturnal will tend to hide its nest because of light. Birds that breed multiple times in year may tend not to care much about their investment in making the nest but they care that their nest is near to the required food.
