The above information is based on studies of last few decades, based on estimates driven from latest techniques and collaboration of thousands of scientists. So there is no reason to contest these estimates unless we have any concrete evidence to the contrary.

Bentham and Hooker estimated only 97000 species of seed plants. The number has since already grown to nearly three times of that, meaning nearly 70 % of existing species were not known to them.
