Abstract:A species of Commelinaceae, Murdannia sahyadrica from the Northwestern
Ghats in India, is described as new to science and illustrated. Morphologically
it shows close affinities to M. semiteres and M. juncoides, from which it
differs by orbicular petals, stamens symmetrically arranged around the central
erect style, an ovoid capsule and uniseriately arranged seeds.
