A fear this plant, and the one depicted on Flowers of India (both look similar) may not be Saussurea graminifolia for two very important reasons: 1. leaves are grasslike and totally entire 2. Head is single and not clustered.
I feel it may just be a form of S. gossypiphora, unless these identifications are wrong: http://www.art-prints-on-demand.com/a/artist-artist-1/heemkamalcottonysaussurea.html http://www.encyclopedia.com/video/nxMLhKakowU-saussurea-gossypiphora-in-garhwal.aspx -- Dr. Gurcharan Singh Retired Associate Professor SGTB Khalsa College, University of Delhi, Delhi-110007 Res: 932 Anand Kunj, Vikas Puri, New Delhi-110018.
