Thank you Mahesh for your reply. How can I use the private use area? I am not so much familiar with the entire linux system. Is there a walk-through tutorial or some material that I can follow. I looked up in several postings where people talk about using tools like fontcreator, fontforge, etc. But after making changes in the font what should I do to make the resulting font work in my word-processing application. In other words, if I want to copy a glyph at one codepoint in private use area and then modify it using a font editing tool, then after that what should I do to use that modified font. How can I put it in my keymap? This is one of the points where I am stuck at.
Another question is will that modified font behave in the same way as the original (in terms of conjugation with other fonts)? If not, how to take care of that. How can I modify the rendering application to take care of such instances reliably. I am working on a transcription project where some sounds of the voice are not available in the target scripts.
