I am unsure about this, but has harfbuzz replaced pango engines? ie. old pango indic shaper replaced with harfbuzz shaper? I see libpangoft2 depending on libharfbuzz ( 0.9.1x on LMDE) So if to test font with Harfbuzz I can test with gedit, libreoffice etc. or build from source and use it to test.
