Saya sudah mencoba untuk Install Oracle XE ini di Windows2000. Berbeda dengan metoda install Oracle Db (menggunakan runIstaller/rapid Install), OracleXE ini menggunakan Install Shield.
Ketika Install kita hanya diminta masukan ORACLE_BASE/ORACLE_HOME path. Kemudian password untuk SYS/SYSTEM. Setelah menunggu beberapa saat, terinstall dengan baik. Setelah saya perhatikan, OracleXE mengambil tempat 1Gb dan SGA 163Mb (di komputer saya). Setelah install (saya install di Drive D), OracleXE juga mengambil tempat 150Mb untuk file .msi (karena menggunakan Install shield). Tidak ada OraInventory directory seperti biasanya. Menurut saya ketika install, sebaiknya ada space minimal 315Mb di Drive C. Pertama kali melihat XE ini, saya lihat structure directory (di bawah ORACLE_HOME) sama dengan versi Oracle Enterprise, tapi ada beberapa yang tidak ada. Kalau yang pernah menggunakan HTML DB, OracleXE ini juga memakai ini. Dimana monitoring, SQL editor, administrator dsb. nya sudah web base. Juga untuk membangun aplikasi, menurut saya cukup mudah, sama dengan HTML DB. Untuk Startup dan Shutdown juga sudah cukup simple, cukup click satu shortcut. Semua servicenya (listener, Service dsb.) sudah jalan. Demikian, pengalaman pertama saya dengan OracleXE di windows. Saya akan coba juga install di Linux.
