Kalau Anda hanya merubah panjang datatype definitionnya, Oracle tidak akan melakukan apa2 untuk index segmentnya. Jika setelah Anda merubah panjang datatypenya terus Anda meng-update datanya, Oracle akan meng-update index segmentnya.
Kalau anda mengupdate datanya, recommendasi saya 1. Drop dulu indexnya 2. Update data 3. Create index with NOLOGGING option (supaya lebih cepat dan tidak membebani database). Untuk performance query sendiri, tidak akan ada masalah.
