In the past, we have had some discussions in the list regarding the date of the 
earliest Brahmi inscriptions. Recently, I came upon this discussion, in which a 
north Indian archaeologist fellow of Indian Council of Historical Research 
suggests that K. Rajan’s thesis that Tamil Brahmi is older than Aśokan Brahmi 
has come to be accepted now. Is this a new consensus among Indian historians?
