Dear Colleagues,
I’m pleased to share this job listing
<https://my.corehr.com/pls/uoxrecruit/erq_jobspec_version_4.display_form?p_company=10&p_internal_external=E&p_display_in_irish=N&p_process_type=&p_applicant_no=&p_form_profile_detail=&p_display_apply_ind=Y&p_refresh_search=Y&p_recruitment_id=177988>
for a post-doctoral researcher on mantras and early yoga in the Faculty of
Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Oxford. The position will
be part of the project, “Mantras in Religion, Media, and Society in Global
Southern Asia” (MANTRAMS)<https://mantrams.web.ox.ac.uk/home>, funded by a
Synergy Grant from the European Research Council.

Potential candidates should apply through the link above, where they can also
find a detailed job description. The deadline for applications is March 10,
2025. Preference will be given to candidates working on texts and traditions
from the first millennium CE where mantras are centrally important to the
construction of yoga, especially in relation to the Upaniṣads, the Epics and
Purāṇas, Pāśupata asceticism, Śaivism, and/or Tantrism. Themes of particular
relevance to the project include seed syllables (bījas), the yogic body, and
mantra meditation. Proposals related to later texts and traditions (e.g., Haṭha
Yoga, Yoga Upaniṣads) may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Feel free to write to me off-list with any queries:
[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>

Thanks in advance for sharing this widely.

Yours,
Finnian
