The opening session of the Asean-China Young Entrepreneurs Workshop was
launched by the Permanent
Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade, Pengiran Dato Paduka
Osman bin Pg Hj Petra,
yesterday.
The June 18-20 event brings together delegates from Asean member countries and
China to lay the
groundwork for the formation of an Asean-China Young Entrepreneurs Association.
It is hoped that the level of business exchange, particularly in joint
investments, around Asean countries and
China would increase once the Asean-China Young Entrepreneurs Association has
been formed.
The workshop, which is currently being held at the Empire Hotel & Country Club,
gives practical shape to the
spirit that underpins the articles of the Asean Charter.
According to Pg Dato Paduka Osman Petra, Brunei is committed to do all it can
to help this spirit shine
brightly throughout the region.
"We believe very strongly in the concept of an Asean community (which has a
population of about 500
million)," he said, adding he was confident that the people would be able to
successfully cope with the
challenges that lie ahead.
In light of this, the Brunei government is making concerted efforts to
strengthen the partnership between the
public and private sector, the permanent secretary said.
"For us in the government... our job is not to be businessmen / women. (Instead
our job) is to help our
businesses do well," he said.
Representing Brunei at the meeting are members from the Young Entrepreneur's
Association of Brunei
(YEAB). The delegation is being led by YEAB President Hjh Mazrinah Yusof.
