September 27, 2011 3:53 pm Papandreou calls for German tolerance By Quentin Peel in Berlin George Papandreou, the Greek prime minister, has called on German industrialists to stop sniping at Greece<http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/06a621d2-debc-11e0-a228-00144feabdc0.html>and recognise the “superhuman effort” being made by his country to impose drastic austerity measures <http://www.ft.com/greece> in a deepening recession. Against a background of growing speculation in financial markets that his government may be forced to default on its borrowing<http://www.ft.com/cms/s/3/fd3ab63e-e501-11e0-9aa8-00144feabdc0.html>, in spite of rescue efforts of its eurozone partners, he said: “I can guarantee that Greece will live up to all its commitments.” “The persistent criticisms levelled against Greece are deeply frustrating, not only at the political level, where a superhuman effort is being made to meet stringent targets in a deepening recession, but frustrating also for the Greeks, who are making these painful sacrifices and difficult changes.” Mr Papandreou sought to answer some of the key criticisms of the German business community, such as widespread corruption, insisting that “total transparency and accountable governance are our priorities”. *“We are not a poor country. We were a mismanaged country*,” he said. *“Every single euro spent by the government is now published online for every citizen to see.”* _______________________________________________ Indonesia mailing list [email protected] http://nextbetter.net/mailman/listinfo/indonesia http://indonesia.nextbetter.net
