Although he admitted that political party representatives have the right to refuse to sign the election report, it would be better if they had not used the right. The Sultan of Yogyakarta was commenting here Wednesday on the refusal of 27 KPU members representing small political parties to sign the final report of the 1999 general election. Following a hand-over ceremony of the post of head of the Religous Court of Appeal for the Yogyakarta Special Province, the Sultan tld the press that it would be necessary to investigate their motivation in refusing to sign the election report. In order to seek the necessary clarification, the election supervision body (Panwaslu) should do the investigation, said the Sultan, who is also Governor of Yogyakarta. According to him, despite the refusal of the 27 political parties to sign the election report, the results of the 1999 election remain valid, especially because all the big parties have given their endorsement. "The important thing is pursue the right legal procedures," he said. Asked to comment on on the attitute of KPU Chairman, Rudini, who also refused to sign the election report, the Sultan once again revarted to justification by virtue of one's right. "In this case, Mr Rudini represents two institusions, namely in his post as KPU chairman, and as representative of the MKGR Party. Differentiation should be made whether Rudini refused to sign as party representative, or as KPU member," the Yogyakarta Sultan cum Governor said.
