The meeting was between BN Marbun of the Commission of Peace and Stability (KPS), Dino Patti Djalal of the Task Force for the Implementation of the East Timor Popular Consultation (P3TT) and Capt Widodo HS of the East Timor Police. In a statement to the press following the meeting, Marbun said since they started last August 14, campaign activities had ran well, not only in the capitals of East Timor's 13 districts but in most villages as well. "There were very few instances of intimidation, terorrizing or violence, and both the pro-integration and the pro-independence camps, he noted. This secure and controlled situation was evidence that there was cooperation among all parties involved, between the public and the security agencies, and mutual understanding between the prointegration and pro-independence camps, he noted. There was no more reason for any party to want to delay the August 30 ballot, Marbun said. About the UN's condition that both camps must lay down and eventually surrender their arms, Marbun said the KPS was working with the leaderships of the prointegration, Integration Fighters Troops (PPI) and the proindependence Falintil to meet the requirement.
