Mahadomi chief Filomeno Antonio Britto said here Thursday that his eight men had been tortured at a port comple--in Dili since Monday <Sept 20>. He identified the harmed Mahadomi members as Lino Soares, Antoninho Soares, Marcelino de Jesus, Gregorio Soares, Matias Soares, Alberto, Domingos and Olementino. Another one, Clementino, was killed after he had been poured over with gasoline by some Australian personnelof Interfet, thus burning to death. Five members succesfully survived themselves from the Dili port incident, while two others, alberto and Domingos, have not been found. Mahamodi is a pro-autonomy group, based in Manatuto district, about 66 km east of Dili. Riding in a truck, the five of survivors ran away from the Dili port to the border area of Atambua, the capital of Belu district in East Nusa Tenggara province. They arrived at Atambua on late Wednesday <Sept 22> with bruised faces and clothes smeared with blood. "My men were passing streets in Dili with civilian clothes and without holding any weapons. But some members of <anti-autonomy Xanana-led> CNRT pointed at them and told UN personnel standing by at the port that they are killers, war criminals," Britto said angrily. He said that he reported the violence committed by the Interfet personnel to the Pro-Integration Force <PPI> Commander Joao Tavares and Manatuto regent, Vidal Domingos Doutel Sarmento. He said that he and his men were waiting for orders from the commander on what steps should be taken as a reaction to the violence. "We will never step back, not any single step. We are ready to face them. The UN force <Interfet> has no differencewith the partisan UNAMET <UN Mission in East Timor, which organized the August 30 popular consultation>," he said, condemning Interfet for also practising partisanship in carrying out their duty in violence-torn East Timor. <F.DLI-2/DLI-01/NN07/INT-TA/ri1/16:32/TB05> ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Didistribusikan tgl. 28 Sep 1999 jam 13:28:51 GMT+1 oleh: Indonesia Daily News Online <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> http://www.Indo-News.com/ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
