"The thousands of locally-built guns and molotov bombs belonging to the two conflicting parties were seized by security personnel from the battalion 511 of the Brawijaya military district command," the battalion`s commander Major Infantry Rusman said on Tuesday. The weapons were confiscated when a sectarian conflict erupted at Bobo village, North Maluku district, on June 7, killing at least 17 people and injuring 17 others. The June 7 clash also led to the abduction of 19 people. The Brawijaya troops are assigned in North Maluku to restore peace on the islands of Bacan and Obi which have been engulfed by sectarian violence since early 1999. Human rights groups say thousands have died in the conflicts.
