It was not clear whether Philippine Ambassador Leonides Caday was among those killed or hurt. Indonesian authorities were not releasing many details, but Philippine Embassy officials said Caday and his driver had been taken to a hospital. It was not immediately known who had died. While early details were vague, witnesses said it appeared that the bomb had exploded near several government offices and diplomats' residences. Caday and his driver were reportedly in a car that was badly damaged by the 12:30 p.m. blast. The blast damaged the Philippine ambassador's residence Police were pushing onlookers back. Witnesses said the explosion was huge, that it had strewn body parts around the area and rocked several buildings. Nearby homes, buildings and vehicles also were damaged, and the blast appeared to have cracked a nearby fire hydrant, which was leaking water.
