Berikut adalah tanggapan dari shadow minister fro foreign minister, " Laurie
Brereton" mengenai statement of concern dari Student and Indonesia Community:
INDONESIA AND EAST TIMUR : NO TIME FOR JINGOISM
The shadow minister for foreign affairs, Laurie Brereton, today called on
Australian to make a clear distinction between Indonesian people and the
Indonesian military and militia personnel responsible for the horrific violance
in East Timor. "All Australian are deeply distressed by what has happened in
East Timur", Mr Brereton said in delivering the annual Labor ' Light on The
Hill' Address in Bathurst tonight. "We are on the eve of deployment of the
Australian Defence Force in a very difficult operation with a serious risk of
casualities. We should all be concerned about display of anti-Australian
sentiment on Jakarta Street and threats against Australian in East Timor and
elsewhere in Indonesia". 'At the same time, it is vital that all Australain
have
a clear understanding that a great many Indonesian are equally shocked and
devastated by what has happenned in East Timor." " Earlier this week, Indonesia
Student in Sydney issued an Impassioned statement of concern about the human
tragedy in east timor, welcomed the deployment of United Nations peacekeepers
and deplored the deterioration of bilateral relations between Australia and
Indonesia". "There is a responsible for everyone in public office to ensure
that
jingoism and anti-Indonesian Outbursts have no place in our nation's respon to
East Timor crisis." "The criminal wha have directed the appealing events in
East
Timor over recent weeks and month must be held to account fully for their
actions. But Australian must ensure that this condemnation does not extend to
the Indonesian people whose democratic aspirations are in jeopardy." "The
tragedy of East Timor will indeed be even greater if the present crisis wrecks
Indonesia's emergent democracy." "Australia must do the right thing by East
Timor. But we must also support Indonesia's Democracy. We msut make every
effort to avoid a destructive spiral of nationalist rhetoric and abuse which
can only damage hopes and produce an enduring estrangement between our
countries." Disampaikan oleh Pak Sumaryono Terima KasihPengurus cabang PPIA NSW
